It' Been a While !

Hi everyone. I don't know where the time goes these days. I quit one day job and stuck with my second day job at National Courier Services in Victoria, BC.

VictoriaNightOut.com is still running and getting a few hits. A few more have signed up for free too. Sooke Ocean Resort and Sushi ON the Sea posted a profile/listing on the website. The Rendezvous Club signed on under entertainment the other day also. Victoria's premier speed dating and singles events company. Check them out too !! Osaka Sushi at 1951 Oak Bay Ave posted a free listing just a few days ago.

I have also recruited a couple of very nice, willing people to walk some of the streets in the Greater Victoria area to give out my flyers and business cards for the website.

I will write sooner this time. Bye !

Winter is Over ? Work never Is

Wow, that was a long break between blog posts. I have been helping a friend start a website up for his business. Nothing fancy, just a place to show people what he makes at home in his shop and let them know where he is. Jim Jellis and his wife Kathy live in Creston, BC. Jim makes cool things out of wood and naturally shed antlers. Different types of really beautiful wood. Their website for JJWoodturning is brand new and we just added some pictures and prices so please put this in your favourites so you can check back in the future for more homemade turned items. Just click this to see Jim Jellis' website.

About VictoriaNightOut.com .......... I have someone going this week to give out my business card with a letter. Hopefully, giving out a couple hundred business cards will help.

Until next time...

Restaurants in Victoria, BC

I don't really hang out at restaurants on Christmas eve or Christmas day either but I am wondering just how busy they are on those days.

If I was out doing last minute shopping all day I would certainly not want to go home and start cooking on Xmas eve. I know there are a few places that serve a great turkey dinner on Xmas day but I have never eaten out in a restaurant on Xmas day. Maybe we should try it next year. Heck, we can have the family over on boxing day, or any day, for that matter. Where would we go though ? I don't have a clue.

You have probably read some of my other blog posts stating that I have recently started a free search or posting site for local Victoria, BC restaurants, bars, accomodations and bands. It's called VictoriaNightOut.com I hope by next Christmas I will be able to search my own website and see tons of postings with Xmas dinner specials. I am counting on alot of restaurants in Victoria to find there way to our website, post a free listing and give us all the details of why we should pick their place to go out and have their delicious holiday meal.

Remember, if you know someone that runs a restaurant in Victoria, tell them about the new website that will showcase their business for free.

Until next time....

Eating Out Victoria. Variety Abounds, Where ?

Eating out in Victoria, Bc is always a really great experience. Picking where to go can be difficult though. There are just too many to choose from. Dining out in Victoria is one of my favourite things to do. And, because almost every place to eat has a website these days, I don't go for the phonebook anymore. I usually Google it. You know what to search. Eating out in Victoria, breakfast in Victoria, fine dining in Victoria etc.

What you really need to search restaurants, bars, hotels. motels, coffee bars and generally fun places to go is a local website where it is All listed. Hopefully, that's what VictoriaNightOut.com will be in the very near future. Most Victoria businesses and residents don't even know it exists but it does. It still does not have many listings but it is slowly growing and I want it to be THE Victoria Entertainment search site.

If you read this, have a business that fits our categories and maybe need a bit more free advertising, please go to VictoriaNightOut.com and post a free business profile.

Until next time.

Victoria, BC Entertainment, The Olden Days

No, I just mean when I used to go out every night. I remember a place on lower Johnson St(I think) that was open after hours, even after the bars closed at 2am. The door wasn't right out on the main street. You had to walk up a dark alley, then go up a long set of stairs. It was really dark and the dance floor had huge 3 foot tiles, or maybe it was painted, in a checker board pattern.

Being after hours, it was not licensed but everyone seemed to have a bottle of something to mix with their pop. I can remember the seats. They were about 4 feet across, hexagonal, padded and no backrests in sight. There must have been lamps inside the bottoms because the light came through the tiny star and moon patterns that were cut into the side panels. It looked cool, and a bit blurry by the time I got there.

After the dancing and downing all of our "mixed drinks" we would sometimes go to Pauls Restaurant. It was open 24 hours and had kind of a family style menu. The one I went to the most was closer to town. The one with the upstairs lounge surrounded by copper. Man, it takes a long time for copper to rot. My other most popular Paul's was kitty corner from Denny's but it is long gone now.

It was so busy at the downtown Pauls that people waiting for tables would sit on the low, 9 inch wide window sill close to their friends that already had a table. I don't know what their hours are now so I hope Pauls will post a profile on VictoriaNightOut.com so everyone will know for sure.

The nightlife in Victoria was alot of fun then and still is now.

A NightOut in Victoria, BC. Remember When ?

Any of you out there that are about my age will remember " the good ol' days ". No, I'm not going to tell my age. You will figure out my approximate age if you continue reading on.

One of my most favourite places to hang out years ago was called Decadance. Some may recall the bubble tubes in the wall in the upper lounge and the huge bubble tubes at the corners of the dance floor. Decadance was at the corner of Pandora and Government Streets. Even before that place opened, the Century Inn had a dining room where the dance floor ended up and the lounge servers were dressed in flimsy harem costumes.

They new me quite well there. I probably dropped by too often. One of the daytime bartenders used to walk up to my spot at the bar daily and whisper " if anyone asks, this is yours " as he slides over his half-downed scotch and water. He was a great person though and I usually got a free drink out of the deal.

A ton of you will remember where you ate late at night after the bars kicked you out into the street. We went to Romeos, Pauls, Denny's, remember ? I still go to those 3 restaurants, just not as late. My best memories were of Coffee Macs. That restaurant was, for me anyways, The Most entertaining night-time place in Victoria. I loved it. Watching all the different types, sober or not, that came in to fill their belly. THAT was a nightout in Victoria.

The nightlife in Victoria is still out there. It's different, but still a great time.

More nostalgia soon.
